The Project:

Mr. and Mrs. E moved into their home in Chilworth, Southampton about three years ago and have been gradually improving it since.  Initially they considered adding an extension, but after experiencing frustration with builder delays, they turned to us to explore ways of making the most of their existing space.  Over the course of several months we worked together to explore a range of design possibilities, eventually deciding to remove several walls, including those of a study, wetroom, and utility room, in order to create a more open and flexible layout for their home.

With the walls removed and an internal door removed by our builder, the room design centred around three key elements: the main kitchen area, a bar and seating space, and the creation of a smaller yet highly functional utility room.

The chosen kitchen units were from Stoneham Kitchens’ Latitude (handleless) range,  finished in Blue Hague and French Grey and complemented by Ethereal Glow Silestone worktops.  The large island, which comfortably seats four, features a Bora extractor hob with practical plug sockets. Storage solutions throughout the space include a variety of drawers, from deep pan drawers to internal drawers, LeMans corner pull-outs in Anthracite, and a highly functional tambour unit. Appliances include a Liebherr full-height fridge and freezer and Siemens ovens, warming drawer, and dishwasher.

The bar area and bench seating carry forward the design theme, featuring Stoneham Blue Hague furniture and Silestone worktops, along with bespoke bench seating that incorporates handy storage drawers. To softly divide the dining area from the bar and add a design element, we installed Oak slats with hidden fixings.

In line with the new layout, our builder constructed a utility room to the revised specifications, and we supplied and fitted all the necessary storage and utility essentials.
